With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Higgins has been in private practice for psychotherapy and psychodiagnosis since 1987. In addition to her primary role, she served as staff psychologist with Massachusetts General Hospital from 1993 to 2001 and a fellow with the Clinical Development Institute from 1990 to 2002. Earlier in her career, Dr. Higgins was a psychotherapist, intake diagnostician, and case consultant with North Shore Children's Hospital from 1982 to 1987.

Dr. Higgins began her career as a student with Tufts University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1972. She continued her studies with the school, completing a Master of Education in 1974. She subsequently joined Harvard University, earning a Doctor of Education in 1985. Dr. Higgins is a licensed psychologist in the state of Massachusetts.

A respected voice in her industry, Dr. Higgins has been an active leader in her community. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Massachusetts Psychological Association, and she was a lecturer with Middlesex Community College and Lesley Graduate School. She has authored multiple books, and she was an assistant professor and clinical associate at Harvard Medical School Massachusetts General Hospital.

Throughout her career, Dr. Higgins has been recognized for her contributions, including having received several scholarships and fellowships. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
