Jimmi Carole Hatton Kolpek, PharmD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Hatton Kolpek is a professor in the department of pharmacy practice and science at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UK), where she has been teaching since 1989.

Dr. Hatton Kolpek is a professor in the department of pharmacy practice and science at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UK), where she has been teaching since 1989. The current vice chair of the UK institutional review board, she also provides instruction to professional students, residents and graduate students in the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine in the areas of evidence-based medicine, advanced pharmacy practice, traumatic brain injury and clinical research ethics. Between 2007 and 2011, she also served as department chair. Prior to joining the UK faculty, Dr. Hatton Kolpek was an assistant professor of pharmacy at St. Louis College of Pharmacy for two years beginning in 1987 and completed a fellowship in research and education with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists from 1986 to 1987.

Practicing and conducting research on the care of patients with neurologic injury, Dr. Hatton Kolpek's clinical practice has transitioned from neurological intensive care to rehabilitation and ambulatory care of patients with stroke, spinal cord and brain injury. Conducting pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic research projects with neurosurgery colleagues and the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center, she has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, through private foundations and through the UK.

In 2015, Dr. Hatton Kolpek became the director of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Research and Scholarship Academy. She formerly served ACCP as a research institute trustee, and held the offices of treasurer and chairman of the Research Institute Board. She is a research committee member for the Neurocritical Care Society, and a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the National Academies of Practice. Furthermore, she is a longtime member of the National Neurotrauma Society.

Dr. Hatton Kolpek has served on the editorial board for the Journal of Neurocritical Care and has contributed more than 70 articles to scholarly journals. She has also contributed several book chapters, including chapter 22, "Neurologic Impairment," in the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition publication in 2017.

As a way to give back to her community, Dr. Hatton Kolpek proudly worked as a volunteer pharmacist for Faith Pharmacy, providing medication to underprivileged people. She was also a faculty member for Shoulder to Shoulder Global, a UK global health initiatives organization that integrates academic and community partners to improve the health and well-being of an underserved community in Santo Domingo, Ecuador.

A distinguished scholar and fellow, Dr. Hatton Kolpek has also been cited in the 65th edition of Who's Who in America in 2011. She has held a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky since 1983 and 1984, respectively. She then completed postgraduate training and a residency in pharmacy at the University of Kentucky Healthcare between 1984 and 1986. She has been a registered pharmacist since 1983 and was a board-certified nutrition support pharmacist from 1994 to 2012.

Happily married to her husband Jeff Kolpek, Dr. Hatton Kolpek is the proud mother of two children and grandmother of one grandchild.
