Descending from a long line of teachers, Ms. Edwards has offered her expertise in the field of education for more than 30 years during her career. She began her career at San Jose State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. She continued her studies with a Master of Arts from the University of San Francisco in 1976. Certified as a secondary school teacher in the state of California, Ms. Edwards spent her entire career as an educator in various capacities until her retirement in 2000.

As a teacher, Ms. Edwards served the Santa Clara Unified School District in California for 33 years, holding the positions of a secondary teacher, a mentor teacher, a School Improvement Program facilitator, and the district coordinator of the new teacher program. In addition to her primary roles, she excelled as a consultant for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program with the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Ms. Edwards also found success as a secondary school accreditor for the Western Association of School and Colleges.

In order to remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Edwards has maintained affiliation with the California Retired Teachers Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. In her retirement, she is active as a member of the founding chapter of the Automatic Musical Instruments Collectors' Association, also known as AMICA International. She further contributed to her field as the co-author of "Wear Comfortable Shoes and Bring a Sack Lunch," published in 1976. For her accomplishments and devotion as an educator, Ms. Edwards was recognized as Teacher of the Year by Wilcox High School in 1977.
