Supported by many years of practiced industry experience, Diane Elizabeth Swanson Vann is now retired from an extensive career in the fields of nursing and education. She embarked on her professional nursing career as a Private First Class in the Army Student Nurse Program, which she joined between her 2nd and 3rd year at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha in 1972. Following graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974, she was discharged as a PFC and entered the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps as an officer. When in basic training at San Antonio, Texas, her birthplace, in August, her birth month, the group was informed that it was the first from which none would go to Vietnam. Stationed at Ft. Ord, California and then 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, she completed her Vietnam era active duty service as a captain in 1977.

Ms. Vann continued her career as an intensive care nurse then assistant charge nurse in the emergency room at the University of South Alabama Medical Center, Mobile. In 1982 she married James Robert Vann III of Abbeville, Alabama and moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1986 she completed a Master of Science in Nursing Degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Over the years, Ms. Vann has found success in academic positions with Chattanooga State Technical Community College, Middle Georgia College and Macon College.

In addition to her work as a nurse and educator, Ms. Vann authored the book "Undermining the U.S. Constitution: How the Communist Manifesto of 1848 Blueprints the Actions of the Democratic Party and President Obama." In her retirement, she has built a prolific career in politics, having run for the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican candidate in 2010, 2014 and 2016. Looking toward the future, Ms. Vann hopes to remain politically active while spreading awareness on issues regarding healthcare and education.
