After many years of working for such institutions as the University of Cambridge, Newcastle University, the National Science Foundation and Kansas State University, he went to Oklahoma State University, where he is currently recognized as emeritus dean and emeritus regents professor of physics. In addition to his work in education, Dr. Sherwood has also served as a consultant for W.R. Grace Co. and E.I. Du Pont du Nemours & Co.
A fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of Physics and the AVS Science and Technology Society, Dr. Sherwood initially earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Saint Andrews. He later concluded his studies at the University of Cambridge, obtaining a Master of Arts, a Doctor of Philosophy and a Doctor of Science. Dr. Sherwood is a member of the AVS Science and Technology Society, the American Chemical Society, the Society of Applied Spectroscopy, the Materials Research Society and the Electrochemical Society.
Utilizing his expertise, Dr. Sherwood authored the "Vibrational Spectroscopy of Solids" and edited "Critical Reviews in Surface Chemistry." For his skill in the field, he has been presented with a number of honors over the years, including an Outstanding Performance Award from the National Science Foundation. He was further featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest. Looking toward the future, Dr. Sherwood intends to continue parlaying his knowledge of the field to the next generation of science professionals through his work in the Pacific Northwest.
