Prouty since 2000 the two work closely with clients to help them achieve their financial goals and dreams while setting their minds at ease. Prior to forming SFP, Mr. Morrissey was the owner and manager of Islander Lopez Resort in Washington between 1980 and 1982 and the president of real estate development firm Gerke Morrissey, Inc., in Bainbridge Island, WA, from 1978 to 1980. He also spent 8 years in real estate as an associate of both residential and commercial real estate firms in Seattle.
Over the past 30 years, Mr. Morrissey has been actively involved in the industry by providing an array of services in his area. An instructor of a financial planning workshop at Western Washington University in 1987, he has also taught at the Small Business Resource Center in Mount Vernon in 1988. Between 2006 and 2017, he also served on the advisory board for Money Quotient, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization founded on the belief that a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to financial education and planning will engage individuals and inspire them to maximize their resources and live purposeful lives. In 2018, Mr. Morrissey assisted the Foundation for Financial Planning in the development of a pro bono financial planning for cancer patients' program. The Foundation is the nation's only 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity solely devoted to supporting the delivery of pro bono financial planning.
A contributing author of the 1986 book "Financial Planning Can Make You Rich" and the 1988 "About Your Future: Financial Planning Will Make the Difference," Mr. Morrissey was also a columnist for Skagit Valley Herald, a daily newspaper serving the Skagit County, WA, community. He was a contributing financial advisor for Money Magazine and a host for the business radio program KEZX in Seattle as well. In 2018, Mr. Morrissey notably contributed two articles, one of which was published in the Financial Planning Magazine on the topic of financial planners working in resort towns and another in Advisors Magazine on financial literacy.
Mr. Morrissey is a longtime member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and the Friday Harbor Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member and former president of the Puget Sound Society and the national director of the Pacific region of the Institute for Certified Financial Planners (the predecessor organization of the FPA). He was president of the Northwest Washington Estate Planning Council in 1990.
During his career, Mr. Morrissey has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America for his accomplishments. Mr. Morrissey completed his education for the Certified Financial Planner designation from the College for Financial Planning in 1984 and was a student of the advanced investment studies program at the College of Financial Planning in Denver, CO as well. Mr. Morrissey also studied at North Seattle Community College and Shoreline Community College in Shoreline, WA. He is a Certified Financial Planner and an Accredited Estate Planner.
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Mr. Morrissey relocated to Washington in 1951. Very much involved in his community, he has served on the board of directors for the United Way of San Juan County, Friday Harbor, as a member and past president of the Friday Harbor Kiwanis and the San Juan Schools Foundation, and as a lector for St. Francis Parish.
