With more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Suhr has worked in private practice with the Law Offices of Paul A. Suhr, PLLC, since 1989. In his position, he focuses his practice on immigration and naturalization law, criminal defense, business and commercial law, and personal injury. Prior to establishing his own firm, he was a librarian with North Carolina State University from 1980 to 1985, having been director of the Pender County Public Library from 1978 to 1980. Earlier in his career, Mr. Suhr was a bibliographer with the North Carolina Division of State Library from 1975 to 1978.
Mr. Suhr began his career as a student at Campbell University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1968. He then joined the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he completed a Master of Arts in English in 1970, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Master of Science in Library Science in 1975. After obtaining some experience in the field, he returned to his studies at North Carolina Central University, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1988. Mr. Suhr has been admitted to practice law in the state of North Carolina, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.
A respected leader in his community, Mr. Suhr has been an active voice in his areas of interest. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and the D.C. Bar Association. A former member of the board of director of the Wake County Bar Association, he has also served as chair and as a member of the Human Resources and Human Relations Advisory Commission of the City of Raleigh, NC.
Throughout his career, Mr. Suhr has been recognized for his contributions. A grantee of the North Carolina Humanities Committee, he received a Presidential Award from the President of the Republic of Korea in 1992. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
