Larry Penley, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    PHOENIX, AZ, January 17, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Larry Edward Penley, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Penley celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. In 1971, Dr. Penley earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University. He went on to earn a Master of Arts from the university in 1972, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Georgia in 1976. Currently a Regent at Arizona Board of Regents, where he has served since 2015, Dr. Penley commenced his career as assistant professor of management at The University of San Antonio in 1975. He served as visiting professor at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) in 1977, serving in the same capacity at the University of Carabobo Postgrado in 1978. He then worked as associate professor and associate dean at the University of Texas at San Antonio, professor and department chairman at Arizona State University, dean at the Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business, president of Colorado State University, chancellor of the Colorado State University System and president of the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He also currently works as president of his own firm, Penley Consulting, LLC, which he founded in 2009.

Dr. Penley's scholarship is focused on human behavior in organizations, especially managerial behavior. Much of his management work has been focused on both organizational market opportunity and the extension of opportunities for working adults and at-risk students. He currently serves as a board member of the Glion Institute of Higher Education. He also served as a board member of Wells Fargo Credit Card Company, the Thunderbird School of Global Management, the Mountain West Athletic Conference, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and AACSB International where he was Chairman. He also served as a board member of the Toulouse Business School. Prominent for his considerable creative contributions to professional journals in his field, Dr. Penley also co-wrote "Elite MBA Programs at Public Universities: How a Dozen Innovative Schools Are Redefining Business Education" with Mimi Wolverton and "Human Resources Simulation" with his wife, Yolanda Penley.

Initially interested in pursuing higher education teaching and research as his profession, Dr. Penley decided to merge his academic profession with higher education management as a result of his father's influence as a small business owner. He currently celebrates success in higher education management and in his profession, having held the Robert Herberger Arizona Heritage Chair. Dr. Penley has been the recipient of several awards in his field, including research awards from the Organizational Communication Division of the Academy of Management and the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE) in 1983, 1984 and 1989; Greater Phoenix Economic Council's Distinguished Service Award in 2002; INROADS Arizona Frank C. Carr Founders Award in 1997; and the Boy Scouts of America's Vigil Order of the Arrow in 1966. He was also named Citizen of the Year by the Fort Collins Board of Realty in 2006. Notably, Dr. Penley established the first business management program for technology professionals to be offered off campus in south Texas. He initiated a successful online college for working adults in Colorado State University Global, the first fully accredited state university online college in the USA.

Representing his sense of civic responsibility, Dr. Penley serves as Senior Fellow with the Center for the Future of Arizona, and he serves as volunteer for St. Mary's Basilica and board member of the St. Mary's Basilica Patronato Foundation. His past civic commitments include work with the Catholic Community Foundation for the Diocese of Phoenix, the Dignity Health Foundation East Valley, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the Valley Citizens League, among other notable organizations. Interested in professional and educational connections, he is a member of the Wake Forest University Alumni Association and the Association of Governing Boards.
