Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Stockman pursued an education at Purdue University, earning a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1947 and a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering in 1950. After beginning his career at B.F. Goodrich as a research engineer, a senior research engineer, a section leader and the manager of research operations, he worked as the vice president and the general manager of Goodrich-High Voltage Astronautics, Inc. Returning to B.F. Goodrich as a technology director for the aerospace and defense products division and the director of new product development, he excelled as the vice president for E.A. Butler Associates in 1970 and the director of the research development and quality control of rubber group in 1976. Following these appointments, Dr. Stockman would establish his own company in 1982, for which he worked as a consultant until his retirement in 2008.

Dr. Stockman was initially influenced to pursue chemistry by his father, who was a notable pill maker. A patentee in his field, he was the first person to vulcanize tires with nuclear energy, and notably helped develop a particle beam weapon. In addition to his numerous positions with companies in his field, he also served on the research and development committee and as chairman of the technology planning subcommittee for the Pentagon, holding these positions from 1962 to 1968. Dr. Stockman is also a veteran of World War II, having proudly served in England, France, the Philippines and Japan as a chief operations sergeant and a technical sergeant.

Demonstrating interest in civic outreach, Dr. Stockman found success as the vice president of the board of trustees at Parma Community General Hospital from 1954 to 1958. He is further associated with the American Chemical Society, where he was on the board of directors for the rubber division from 1980 to 1981. An accomplished author in his own right, Dr. Stockman has been additionally honored in multiple editions of Who's Who in American, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the Midwest.
