Douglas Manning Tedards was elected to the emeriti faculty of the College of the Pacific at the University of the Pacific, California in 2007.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Tedards is currently retired, having most recently served as director of writing at the University of the Pacific, California in Stockton from 2010 to 2012. Joining the University of the Pacific, California as a lecturer in 1982, he progressed to assistant professor and then to associate professor by 2005, before subsequently holding the role of assistant dean from 2005 to 2007. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was a lecturer with the University of California, Santa Barbara, from 1978 to 1981. Earlier in his career, Dr. Tedards was an instructor with Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, from 1970 to 1972.

Dr. Tedards began his career as a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1966. Following this accomplishment, he continued his studies with the University of Florida in Gainesville, completing a Master of Arts in 1968. Dr. Tedards concluded his education at the University of the Pacific, California, where he earned a Doctor of Arts in 1976.

A leading voice in his community, Dr. Tedards has been active with a number of organizations in his field. Recognized as a fellow of the National Endowment of the Humanities in 1985, he also holds membership with the College Communication and Composition Conference and is a former member of the Modern Language Association. Having served on the advisory board for the California Writing Project in Berkeley, California from 1994 to 2002, he is a regular contributor of poetry, articles, and essays to literary journals and chapters to books. Furthermore, Dr. Tedards published his book "Cross Country: Poems of an Expatriate Southerner" with Cranberry Tree Press in 2013.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tedards has been recognized for his many contributions to his field. Notably, he was elected to the emeriti faculty of the College of the Pacific at the University of the Pacific, California in 2007. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Tedards has been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 60th edition of Who's Who in America, the seventh edition of Who's Who in American Education and the 27th edition of Who's Who in the West.
