Timothy J. Muris is an esteemed lawyer and educator who has been serving as a Foundation professor of law at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School.

With more than four decades of experience, Mr. Muris is an esteemed lawyer and educator who has been serving as a Foundation professor of law at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School in Arlington, Virginia, from 1988 to 2001 and since 2004, having also held the role of senior counsel at Sidley Austin LLP. Prior to these appointments, he acted as of counsel with various firms, including Howrey, Simon, Arnold & White; Collier, Shannon, Rill & Scott PLLC; and O'Melveny & Myers LLP. In addition, he was the interim dean of the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School and a professor at the Law & Economics Center at the University of Miami School of Law, having previously served the school as an associate professor and assistant professor of antitrust and consumer law.

Previously, Mr. Muris was a law and economics fellow at the University of Chicago Law School and worked in Washington, D.C., in multiple capacities, including the executive associate director in the Office of Management and Budget of the Executive Office of the President of the United States, a consultant in the office, chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, and director of the Bureaus of Competition and Consumer Protection with the Federal Trade Commission. He is the only person ever to direct both of the FTC's enforcement arms. He commenced his career as the assistant to the director of the Office of Policy Planning with the Federal Trade Commission beginning in 1974.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Muris served in a number of roles in relation to his career, including as deputy counsel to the Presidential Task Force on Regulatory Relief in Washington, D.C., a consultant with the Council of Wage and Price Stability, and a member of the National Issues Forum in affiliation with the Brookings Institute. Likewise, he has been an advisory board member of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Report from 1990 to 2017 and was formerly on the board of directors of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

Equally passionate about politics and his community, Mr. Muris was a member of the Reagan-Bush Transition Team for the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C., in 1981, having also been a senior advisor of the Bush-Quayle Transition Team in the late 1980s and a senior economic advisor of the Bush-Cheney Transition Team and the Bush-Cheney campaign at the turn of the century. A prolific author, he has additionally contributed myriad articles to professional journals throughout his career, as well as monographs and books. He has written widely on antitrust, consumer protection, regulation, and budgetary issues.

To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Muris pursued formal education at San Diego State University in California, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in economics, history, and political science in 1974. Three years later, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California, Los Angeles and was admitted to the California State Bar. He later became admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia. While studying at UCLA, he was the associate editor of the UCLA Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif, Phi Kappa Phi, and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

In an effort to remain aware of industry changes, Mr. Muris further maintains affiliation with numerous professional organizations, such as the California Bar Association and the American Bar Association, where he has been involved in the antitrust section since 1983. Notably, he was an affiliated scholar of the American Bar Foundation in 1979.

As a testament to his success, Mr. Muris has accrued several accolades, including the Miles W. Kirkpatrick Award from the Federal Trade Commission. Married to Pam Harmon since 1997, he is the proud father of two sons and one grandson. He has been highlighted in multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in American Politics, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America and the 28th edition of Who's Who in the World.
