Randall Balmer has been named to the Hoover High School Hall of Fame and was the recipient of an honorary Gubernatorial Appointment as Admiral by the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Balmer has been the John Phillips professor of religion at Dartmouth College since 2015, having been a professor of arts and sciences from 2014 to 2015 and Mandel Family professor of the arts and sciences from 2012 to 2014. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was the presiding priest at Christ Episcopal Church from 2010 to 2012 and a rector with Saint John's Episcopal Church from 2008 to 2009. From 1996 to 2012, he was the Ann Whitney Olin professor of American religion at Barnard College, where he was also an associate professor of religion from 1991 to 1994. Likewise, he previously served Columbia University as the Ada Byron Bampton Tremaine associate professor in 1990, faculty-in-residence from 1987 to 1990, and assistant professor of religion from 1985 to 1990. Earlier in his career, Dr. Balmer was an assistant master at Butler College at Princeton University from 1984 to 1985.

Dr. Balmer began his career as a student at Trinity College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1976, later receiving a Master of Arts in church history from the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1981. He then joined Princeton University, completing a Master of Arts in religion in 1982 and a Doctor of Philosophy in religion in 1985. After obtaining some experience in the field, he returned to his studies with Union Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity in 2001. Dr. Balmer also holds two Doctors of Humane Letters with Eastern University and the University of the South.

Demonstrating professional versatility, Dr. Balmer has written multiple books in his areas of expertise and was the host of a three-part documentary on PBS entitled "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory" in 1992, which was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1993 and won the Gabriel Award from the National Catholic Association for Broadcasters and Communicators. Likewise, he was a consultant producer and on-camera commentator for "Keeping the Faith" on FOX News; has held guest appearances on NPR, the Colbert Report and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart; and was an expert witness in several First Amendment cases. For his book "A Perfect Babel of Confusion: Dutch Religion and English Culture in the Middle Colonies," he received a Distinguished Book Award from the General Society of Colonial Wars, a Manuscript Award from the New York State Historical Association, and the Governor Alfred E. Driscoll Publication Prize from the New Jersey Department of State Historical Commission.

Throughout his career, Dr. Balmer has been recognized for his contributions, including having been named to the Hoover High School Hall of Fame and was the recipient of an honorary Gubernatorial Appointment as Admiral by the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. A grantee and senior scholar of the Houghton Institute for Integrative Studies, he has also been named a fellow of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Religion at Yale University, Columbia College, and the Massachusetts Historical Society. Dr. Balmer has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
