A petroleum engineer who retired in 2015 as a project manager with the U.S. Department of Energy, Dr. Jikich previously worked for the National Energy Technology Laboratory as a senior research engineer between 2003 and 2009. Prior to this appointment, he excelled as a senior engineer and project manager for EG&G, the Morgantown Energy Technology Center and the National Energy Technology Laboratory between 1988 and 2003. He also found success with the University of Wyoming as a research associate and Florida Rock Industries as a technical service representative. Prior to his work in the U.S., Dr. Jikich spent 11 years as a physicist and senior scientist with the Oil and Gas Institute in Campina and Bucharest between 1972 and 1983 in a new branch that was doing polymer and surfactant injections for the first time (in Romania).
Additionally, Dr. Jikich taught for over a decade, initially contributing as an adjunct assistant professor in the petroleum and natural gas engineering department at the University of West Virginia from 1997 to 2002. He later lectured in the chemical and petroleum engineering department at the University of Pittsburgh in the Swanson School of Engineering from 2009 to 2018. Dr. Jikich is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Society of Core Analysts and Pi Epsilon Tau.
Honored with a Distinguished Contribution Award in Petroleum Engineering in 2014 by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, which ranks among his finest moments, Dr. Jikich also served on the editorial review committee for the SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering Journal, for which he accepted Outstanding Technical Editor Award. He received several other awards during his tenure, including an Adjunct Professor of the Year Award from the University of Pittsburgh's department of engineering in 2014. Presented with three Fulbright Senior Specialists grants, two from the University of Belgrade's college of mining and geology in Serbia in 2006 and 2017 and one from the University of Miskolc's petroleum engineering department in Hungary in 2004, Dr. Jikich was included in the fourth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
Notably, Dr. Jikich pursued an education at the University of Bucharest, earning a Master's degree in 1972. He continued his studies with a Master's degree in 1988 at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Jikich concluded his academic efforts at the University of Wyoming in 1995, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy.
