With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Wilhite has been a professor of leadership with Concordia University since 2007, also serving as dean of the College of Graduate Studies since 2014. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was superintendent of Thornton Fractional Township High School District 215 from 2000 to 2007, having been assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction from 1995 to 1999 and principal of the district's Center of Science and Technology from 1993 to 1995.
From 1989 to 1993, Dr. Wilhite was principal of Wood Oaks Junior High School, having held the same position with Wayne Thomas Elementary School from 1986 to 1989 and with the Greenwood School from 1984 to 1986. He was the curriculum supervisor of reading and language arts at Waukegan Public Schools from 1982 to 1984 and a reading specialist with Wheaton Public Schools from 1978 to 1982. Earlier in his career, Dr. Wilhite was a language arts teacher with Mannheim Middle School from 1972 to 1978 and an English teacher with Edwardsville Junior High School from 1969 to 1970.
Dr. Wilhite began his career as a student at Southern Illinois University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in humanities in 1969. He then joined the United States Army, serving with the Judge Advocate General Office from 1970 to 1972. He subsequently joined Loyola University Chicago, completing a Master of Education in reading and learning disabilities in 1978. Dr. Wilhite continued his studies with the school, earning a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction in 1982.
Throughout his career, Dr. Wilhite has been recognized for his contributions, having received an Army Commendation Medal for his service. The United Way gave him a Campaign Excellence Award, the University of Chicago named him an Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and he was named among the Outstanding Young Men of America. Dr. Wilhite has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
