Dr. Breed is a retired minister, high school athletic coach and teacher who began his career as a pastor at Garden Plain Presbyterian Church in Fulton, Illinois, in 1971. Pastoring several other churches throughout Illinois and Wisconsin over the next 35 years, he retired from ministry in 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kewanee, Illinois, where he devoted 24 of those years. Coaching wrestling and track and field at Kewanee High School between 1987 and 2006, he also taught at the college level for 21 years. Hired to teach philosophy at Black Hawk College in Galva, Illinois in 1995, Dr. Breed then taught both philosophy and religion at Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois, from 2007 to 2016.

In 2017, Dr. Breed authored the book "Ethics: An Introduction to the Western Schools of Thought in Moral Philosophy." An introductory textbook in moral philosophy, it provides an outline of the main schools of thought in the western philosophical traditions with a brief analysis of each school of thought and the views of its critics. Dr. Breed has also contributed articles to various religious publications.

Dr. Breed is a longstanding member of the American Society of Church History, the Institute on Religion in an Age of Science, the Masons and the Kiwanis Club of Galena, Illinois. He is a member and master of Kavanaugh Lodge #36 and member of the Presbytery of Blackhawk, where he served as Vice-Moderator. Dr. Breed formerly served as president of the Kewanee Ministerial Association and the Kewanee Hospital of Volunteer Chaplains and was a delegate for the Synod of Lincoln Trails, a Presbyterian church in Indianapolis.

Dr. Breed holds a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, a Master of Divinity, summa cum laude, and a Master of Sacred Theology, summa cum laude, from the University of Dubuque in Iowa and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. He was ordained to ministry through the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America in 1971. In light of his many accomplishments and great devotion, Dr. Breed was included in the fourth edition of Who's Who in Religion.
