Syed Taseer Hussain has become renowned for his work in mammalian paleontology, conducting research in the evolution of organisms, climate change, human health and critical thinking.

A professor emeritus who taught human anatomy at Howard University College of Medicine for 44 years, Dr. Hussain initially worked for this esteemed academic institute as an instructor, an assistant professor and an associate professor between 1972 and 1985. Holding the post of professor between 1985 and 2016, he served Howard University on numerous committees as well as the chair of the college appointment and promotions and search committees. In 2002, Dr. Hussain excelled as the course co-director for human health and global environmental change at the Howard University College of Medicine.

Dr. Hussain initially obtained a Bachelor's degree with honors at Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan in 1964. He followed this accomplishment with a Master of Science in geology at Punjab University in 1965. He continued his studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in evolutionary biology in 1969. Dr. Hussain concluded his postdoctoral training in the department of vertebrate paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York between 1970 and 1972.

An expert in the evolution of marine mammals, Dr. Hussain has become renowned for his work in mammalian paleontology, conducting research in the evolution of organisms, climate change, human health and critical thinking. Studying matters of climate change, science policy matters and public understanding of science, he has interacted with the governments of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. He was instrumental in establishing the first-ever Pakistan Museum of Natural History in Islamabad, Pakistan, for which he held the role of director general between 1985 and 1987. He also found success as a research associate at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. between 1977 and 2013 and as professor of anatomy at the Aga Khan University in 2013. Dr. Hussain has authored more than 70 peer reviewed papers as a result of his work on such topics as evolutionary biology, geology and global warming in various national and international journals.

He is an elected fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Geological Sciences. Dr. Hussain has been affiliated with the National Geographic Society and the National Science Foundation, as well as the North Atlantic Treaty Organizations' scientific affairs division, where he regularly reviewed research proposals submitted to these organizations. The recipient of an Outstanding Faculty Researcher Award from Howard University in 1989, he also accepted an Alexander von Humboldt Award in 1997. Likewise, Dr. Hussain has been showcased in several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
