An expert in iron metabolism, iron deficiency and absorption, Dr. Paul Whittaker most recently gained valuable expertise through his work as a supervisory chemist with the FDA.

For nearly 53 years, Dr. Whittaker excelled in the field of chemistry, most recently gaining valuable expertise through his work as a supervisory chemist with the Food and Drug Administration. Prior to his post with the FDA, he served as a hematology researcher with the University of Kansas Medical Center from 1984 to 1986. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Whittaker was affiliated with the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, Society of the Sigma Xi, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Association for Cancer Research.

Previously, Dr. Whittaker earned a B.A. from Whitworth University in 1965, and a M.A. from Western Michigan University in 1967, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Utah State University in 1993. Throughout his career, he has contributed 115 articles to professional journals, including 'relationship of duodenal mucosal ferritin and transferrin to iron absorption in humans" and "the effects of calcium supplementation on iron absorption in healthy subjects" and "effect of EDTA on the bioavailability of fortification iron used in Egyptian balady bread", "evaluating the use of fatty acid profiles to identify deep-sea Vibrio isolates", and "comparison of Yersinia pestis to other closely related Yersinia species using fatty acid profiles." Along with other scholars in the field, Dr. Whittaker had his work featured in the Journal of AOAC International, the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and the Journal of Microbiological Methods.

An expert in iron metabolism, iron deficiency and absorption, Dr. Whittaker is a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. Dr. Whittaker received the FDA Distinguished Career Service Award for outstanding laboratory research on iron metabolism that has had an impact on the public health effects from iron deficiency and iron toxicity and Excellence in Laboratory Science Award for outstanding laboratory research on iron metabolism which has had an impact on the public health effects from iron deficiency and iron toxicity. He also was awarded the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Grant for a research project entitled "Iron Status in Women of Childbearing Age in Poland" through the Public Health Service. Due to his professional excellence; he has been selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in the East. Looking toward the future, Dr. Whittaker intends to continue enjoying his well-deserved retirement.
