Earlier in her career, she worked as a professional services consultant for Hillhaven in the Tacoma region of Washington for two years before becoming a nursing administrator for Hillhaven in the Southern California region for an additional three years. Over the years, she has also gained a variety of experience through executive and educational health care roles for Camarillo Convalescent Hospital as a director of nursing, Channel Islands Associates as vice president, Victoria Care Center as administrator and chief executive officer, Blue Cross of California as quality manager, and Texas Children's Health Plan as the director of quality and outcomes management. The highlight of her career, however, was working with the Victoria Care Center because she helped improve their patient care.
An expert in her field, Ms. Calhoun holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Women's University and a Master of Education from the University of Houston. In her spare time, she has contributed to her community through the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Special Attractions Committee and the Houston Zoo. With her vast array of knowledge at her disposal, she has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications, including "A Quality Improvement Project to Improve Speech Therapy Services to Children Within a Medicaid Managed Care Plan: A Pay for Quality Speech Therapy Incentive Program" and "QI to Increase Proper Treatment of Skin Soft Tissue Infections in Medicaid Managed Care Plans."
For her professional accomplishments, Ms. Calhoun was selected as one of the top 150 nurses in Houston by The Houston Chronicle in May 2017, earned a Best of Blue Award from Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and was included in features in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who of American Women. She also received myriad awards for innovation and best practice. In the coming years, Ms. Calhoun intends to continue parlaying her knowledge to others as a health care quality consultant.
