Earlier in her career, she was a regional manager of public relations for Braniff International Airways from 1953 to 1969 and a sales agent with Pan American World Airways from 1951 to 1952.
Ms. Wood Diederichs began her career as a student at Wellesley College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1950. A former member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry, she has been active with the International Women's Forum, the Woman's Athletic Club of Chicago, the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Wellesley College Business Leadership Council and the Arts Club of Chicago.
A respected leader in her community, Ms. Wood Diederichs has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. The former president of the Junior League of Chicago, she has served on the Vatican Art Council, the Founders Council of the Field Museum, and the committee of Marshall Scholars. She is a lifetime trustee and member of the executive committee of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a trustee of the Sherwood Conservatory of Music, a committee member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and a trustee of the Fourth Presbyterian Church. Ms. Wood Diederichs has served on the boards of directors of the Albert Pick Jr. Foundation, the International House at the University of Chicago, and the Chicago Convention and Visitors Bureau.
