Backed by more than 50 years of practiced medical experience, Dr. Thompson served as an attending physician with Summit Memorial in Van Buren, AR. At the inception of his career, he completed an internship and residency through Union Memorial Hospital, followed by a residency and fellowship in orthopedic surgery through Johns Hopkins Hospital. Over the years, he has lent his expertise to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and nuclear medicine, as well as Memorial Hospital, where he worked as an attending orthopedic surgeon and locum tenens physician. Throughout his career, he obtained patents for a hearing testing machine, published a research paper he wrote for the National Institute of Health, and contributed to solving issues regarding airplane crashes and why they occurred, which he subsequently wrote about in the International Journal of Aviation Psychology.

A diplomate through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from the California Institute of Technology and a Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, he has maintained affiliation with the Eastern Orthopedic Association and the Flying Physicians Association, where he also served as president in 2000. Earlier in his career, he served to the post of lieutenant commander in the U.S. Public Health Service from 1966 to 1968 and published research involving uranium 235.
