Mrs. Linda Irene Showalter Balthaser has been recognized as assistant dean emerita of Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne since 2002.

With 40 years of professional experience, Mrs. Balthaser has been recognized as assistant dean emerita of Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne since 2002. Prior to her retirement, she was assistant dean of arts and sciences from 1987 to 2002, changed to Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2018, assistant dean of arts and letters from 1986 to 1987, assistant to the dean of arts and letters from 1970 to 1986, and administrative secretary to the Office of the President of Indiana University Bloomington from 1963 to 1966. Earlier in her career, Mrs. Balthaser was a teacher of business education at Southport High School from 1962 to 1963.

Mrs. Balthaser began her career as a student at the University of Indianapolis, then Indiana Central College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in 1961. She then joined Indiana University, earning a Master of Science in 1962. She has served as a trustee, college and university representative, and grantee of the American Association of University Women branch of Fort Wayne, and president and co-chair of the steering committee of the Association of the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne Women.

A respected leader in her community, Mrs. Balthaser has been active with a number of organizations in relation to her areas of interest. She is a member of the WFWA PBS39, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, the Embassy Theatre Foundation, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Historical Association, National Women's History Museum, Mensa International, Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Chi, Phi Alpha Epsilon and Delta Pi Epsilon. Mrs. Balthaser has served as moderator and assistant moderator of Plymouth Congregational Church of Fort Wayne, as well as on the executive council, as a trustee, and on multiple committees and voluntary service activities.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Balthaser has been recognized for her accomplishments, including having received the Women of Achievement Award from the YWCA, the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from the AAUW of Fort Wayne, the IPFW Alumni Association Ralph E. Broyles Medal, inclusion in the inaugural class of the IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame, Plymouth Congregational Church Good and Faithful Servants Award and an inaugural recipient with her late husband of the IPFW Chancellor's Medal. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
