A grantee of the National Endowment for the Humanities between 2000 and 2003, she is the author of several texts and contributor of articles to professional journals. Likewise, she is a frequent lecturer in her field, having presented at multiple conferences both domestically and abroad.
A respected voice in her industry, Dr. Scurlock has been an active leader in her community. She is a member of the American Oriental Society, the International Association for Assyriology, and the American Schools of Oriental Research, and she is the former co-president of the Assyriology & the Bible section of the Society of Biblical Literature. She has also maintained affiliation with the American Historical Association.
Throughout her career, Dr. Scurlock has been recognized for her achievements. She has received several awards and accolades for her contributions to her areas of expertise. She has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 61st and 62nd editions of Who's Who in America. However, she cites the highlight of her career to be the publication of her first book, "Diagnoses in Assyrian and Babylonian Medicine" written with medical doctor Burton Andersen. Subsequent books include "Magico-Medical Means of Treating Ghost Induced Illnesses in Ancient Mesopotamia" and "Sourcebook for Ancient Mesopotamian Medicine."
