An accomplished listee, Mrs. Steele Clark celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ana Steele Clark retired from the National Endowment for the Arts after 33 years of service. She came to work at this independent federal agency just after Congress had established it, late in 1965, to assist artists and arts education, and help make the arts available to all. Starting as a clerk/typist, she soon moved into positions of increasing responsibility, as Director of Budget and Research, Director of Planning, and Director of Program Coordination, followed by 11 years as Associate Deputy Chair for Programs and Director of Program Coordination. She then served as Deputy Chair for Management and Budget, Acting Chair in 1993, and Senior Deputy Chair from late 1993 until her retirement in 1998.

While at the Arts Endowment, Mrs. Steele Clark was author and editor of a 1968 report, "History of the National Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts During the Johnson Administration." She was editor of "Museums USA" in 1974, which was awarded a Federal Design Council Award of Excellence in 1975, and was also editor of "National Endowment for the Arts, 1965-1968: A Brief Chronology of Federal Involvement in the Arts" in 1985.

She served during the administrations of Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Clinton.

Prior to working at the Endowment, Mrs. Clark had been an actress in theater and television in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and New York. While in New York, she served as a reader for Recording for the Blind, and later, in Washington, as a volunteer tutor for Future for Jimmy.

A member of Actors' Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, the Senior Executives Association, Delta Epsilon Sigma, and Kappa Gamma Pi, Mrs. Steele Clark has also been an honorary lifetime member of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals and Dance/USA since 1998. She served as a judge for the Helen Hayes Awards in Washington from 2003-2006.

Mrs. Steele Clark obtained a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, degree in Drama from Marywood College (now University) in 1958, where she was later recognized as a Distinguished Graduate in the Field of Arts in 1976 and received a Presidential Medal in 2000. She served as a trustee of the University from 1989 to 1998. She was also named to the Distinguished Alumnae Hall of Fame by Ursuline Academy in 2001, from which she graduated in 1954.

Included in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in American Politics, and Who's Who in the World since 1987, Mrs. Steele Clark has been married to her husband, John Hunter Clark, for nearly 40 years. She enjoys reading books and newspapers, attending theatre and dance performances, and listening to music of all kinds, especially classical.
