James Conlon Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

James Conlon has been recognized as a professor emeritus of the University of South Alabama since 1998.

    MOBILE, AL, February 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present James Conlon with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Conlon has been recognized as a professor emeritus of the University of South Alabama since 1998. Prior to his retirement, he served the school as a professor from 1980 to 1997, an associate professor from 1972 to 1980, and as assistant professor of art from 1965 to 1972. From 1962 to 1965, he was a lecturer with Indiana University. Earlier in his career, Mr. Conlon was an art teacher with Cincinnati Public Schools from 1960 to 1961.

Mr. Conlon began his career as a student at the Ohio State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in art education in 1959. He remained with the school as a graduate assistant from 1961 to 1962. In 1962, Mr. Conlon concluded his studies with the Ohio State University, earning a Master of Arts in fine arts.

A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Mr. Conlon has been an active leader in his community. He was president of the Watercolor and Graphic Arts Society of Mobile, and he has served on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity. In addition, he designed the Mobile Terrace playground and his local commissions include: "Three Angels", a large, fiber glass, cold cast bronze, relief for the St. Elmo Seventh Day Adventist Church, A fiber glass figurative table all for the lobby of University of South Alabama Women's and Children's hospital in Mobile and a wall sized fiber glass relief of Mobile Bay for the Mobile Airport Authority.

Throughout his career, Mr. Conlon has been recognized for his achievements and accomplishments, including having been a grantee of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. With Kress Foundation support through the mid 1970's and 1980's, he established and developed with the help of his colleague, James Kennedy, the Ethnic American Art slide library at the University of South Alabama. This program of slide acquisition and distribution provided almost 400 American colleges and universities with quality visual aids in the area of African-American, Mexican-American, and Native-American art.

He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple edition of Who's Who in America. In his free time, Mr. Conlon enjoys photography, numismatics, and volunteering at the Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center.
