Joy Holland Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ATLANTA, GA, February 22, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Joy Holland with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Holland celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Holland began her career in 1972 at the University of Chicago Hospital and Clinics. A retired nurse who specialized in caring for mentally challenged youth, she continued to move up the ranks quickly. Later employed at various other hospitals, including Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY, as a clinic administrator and Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in Brentwood, NY, as a director of nursing, Ms. Holland was also employed at Ypsilanti Regional Psychiatric Hospital, Huron Valley Center and Southgate Center as chief executive officer. Finally landing in Washington, DC, she had accepted a position at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital, where she served as chief executive officer in 2001, remaining in this role for six years until her retirement in 2007.

Throughout her career, Ms. Holland served in a number of other roles, including deputy commissioner for the department of mental health for the State of Ohio, consultant for the Joint Commission Accreditation of Hospitals, consultant specialist and board of directors for Holland-Richardson Associates, and governing council for the American Hospital Association Section on Psychiatric and Substance Abuse. She was also an adjunct lecturer in the School of Nursing at the University of Michigan and was on the board of visitors at Howard University. Furthermore, she contributed her expertise as a writer, contributing to the book "Guide to J.C.A.H. Nursing Standards" in both the 1985 and 1986 editions.

After retiring from her hospital administration career, Ms. Holland served as the chief of staff for Muriel Bowser who was representing Ward 4 as a member of the Council of the District of Columbia from 2007 to 2015. Ms. Bowser has since been serving as mayor since 2015. Ms. Holland then spent another two years as the Deputy Secretary for the District of Columbia until 2017.

A lifetime member of the New York Academy of Science, Ms. Holland is also a longtime member of the Business and Professional Women, Inc., Masons, Order of the Eastern Star, Top Ladies of Distinction, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Sigma Theta Tau. Locally, she has been active on the board of directors for Women in Crisis, Inc., in New York City, the Washtenaw County American Red Cross in Michigan, the psychiatry department at Chelsea Hospital in Michigan, and the Academy of Hope in Washington, DC.

Ms. Holland has been included in approximately 50 editions of Who's Who in honor of her career. She has been listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who of American Women, among others. Ms. Holland has held an Associate in Arts in nursing from Olive-Harvey College since 1972, a Bachelor of Science from St. Joseph's College New York since 1976, and a Master of Science in health administration from C.W. Post College since 1978. Married since 1985 to Chesley Roderick Richardson, Ms. Holland has two children and two grandchildren.
