George Greenfield Honored for His Work as a Radiologist

    TREASURE ISLAND, FL, March 06, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George Greenfield has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 60 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Greenfield has worked as a radiologist since 1960. A professor emeritus with the University of South Florida, he has contributed to the City of Treasure Island, FL, on the Future of Treasure Island Committee since 2016 and on the Beach Preservation Committee since 1998. Furthermore, Dr. Greenfield has built a prolific career with his fine art, photography, and digital art, with exhibitions in such venues as the Treasure Island Community Center, the Morean Arts Center, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, the Suntan Art Center and the St. Pete Beach Community Center.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Greenfield pursued an education at New York University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1949. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1951. He concluded his studies at Utrecht University in 1956, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine. Afterwards, Dr. Greenfield began his career as an intern at Bridgeport Hospital from 1956 to 1957 and a resident of radiology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center from 1957 to 1960.

A diplomate of the American Board of Radiology in 1961, Dr. Greenfield was licensed to practice medicine in Illinois in 1957 as well as Florida, New Jersey, and Wisconsin in 1961. Following these accreditations, he contributed to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County as a radiologist from 1961 to 1966 and as an assistant director from 1966 to 1969. During this time, Greenfield held the role of associate professor of radiology at the University of Illinois.

Beyond these appointments, Dr. Greenfield was the professor of diagnostic radiology at Rush Medical College for Rush University from 1976 to 1989, and professor and chairman of the department of radiology at both Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1969 to 1989 and the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science from 1969 to 1974. Additionally, he served as an attending radiologist with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute from 1989 to 2006, a professor of radiology for the the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science from 1987 to 1989 and at the University of South Florida from 1989 to 2003, the vice chairman for the department of radiology in the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science from 1988 to 1989, and president of the medical staff at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1983 to 1985.

Dr. Greenfield has found much success with his written works as well, having been published as a senior author on "Imaging of Arthritis" in 2001, "Computers in Radiology" in 1985, "A Manual of Radiographic Positioning" in 1973, and as photographer in "50th Anniversary of Treasure Island" in 2005. A consulting editor for the Chicago Medical School Quarterly, he has served on the editorial boards for the Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine, the Quarterly Bulletin and Osteológiai Közlemények. Likewise, Dr. Greenfield has also contributed articles to many professional journals.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Greenfield remains affiliated with such organizations as the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical Society, the Chicago Radiological Society, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Radiological Society of North America. Likewise, he has maintained involvement with the Institute of Medicine of Chicago, the International Skeletal Society, the Society of Skeletal Radiology and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.

A fellow of the American College of Radiology, Dr. Greenfield was presented with the Editors Choice Award from the International Library of Photography in 1998 and 1999. Featured in the first edition of "How to Find the Best Doctors: Florida" by Castle-Connolly in 2000, he was recognized as Best of Show by the American Physicians Art Association in 2005 and as the Featured Artist of the Month by the Suntan Art Center in 2007.

Honored as a Distinguished Worldwide Humanitarian in 2018 and in the 2018 edition of Marquis Magazine, Dr. Greenfield notably garnered special designations 20 times by the Art Guild of Treasure Island between 2003 and 2018, 10 times by the Suntan Art Center between 2007 and 2017, and six times by the American Physicians Art Association from 1994 to 2008. Looking towards the future, he hopes to find more success with his photography while cementing his legacy in his respective fields.
