RYE, NY, March 06, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eric Hall has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As a Higgins Professor Emeritus of Columbia University, Dr. Eric Hall has been training medical professionals for more than 50 years. Dr. Hall's journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Physics, with honors, from the University College of London in 1953. After completing his undergraduate degree, he found that he regretted not having graduated from medical school. So he went into medical physics and from that, into medical biological research. He continued his education with a doctorate in radiobiology from Oriel College in Oxford in 1962. He has since received two honorary degrees, a doctorate and a Master of Arts, from Oriel.

Dr. Hall's career began with assistant physicist roles with Churchill Hospital and the Velindre Cancer Centre in 1955 and 1956, respectively. He then rose to the position of senior physicist with Churchill Hospital in 1957, which he held until 1963, when he was promoted to principal physicist. By 1968, Dr. Hall decided to pursue new opportunities for professional growth in the United States. He accepted his first full professorship at Columbia University, and he remained in that position until 1986. Dr. Hall joined NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 1983 as a radiation biologist, and he remained with the hospital in various medical and educational roles, including full professor and Higgins Professor, until 2007, when he retired. As an emeritus professor, Dr. Hall remains active as a special lecturer in radiation oncology with NewYork-Presbyterian.

In addition to his work in the classroom and the hospital, Dr. Hall has authored or co-authored more than 390 articles to professional journals. He was also the author of "Principles and Practice of Brachytherapy: Using Afterloading Systems", published in 2001 and "Radiobiology for the Radiologist", editions one through five.

In recognition of his hard work and dedication, Dr. Hall was named as a Fulbright Exchange Scholar in 1962. In 1983, he was presented with a Barclay Medal by the British Institute of Radiology, as well as a Marie Curie Gold Medal from the Great Lakes Chapter of the Health Physics Society. Other prominent accolades to his name include a Gold Medal from the Juan Del Regato Foundation in 1997, a Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award from the Health Physics Society in 2005 and a Distinguished Service Award from the Radiation Research Society in 2012.

Looking ahead, Dr. Hall intends to continue furthering medical knowledge through his lectures with NewYork-Presbyterian. His work continues to provide invaluable help to medical students from around the country.
