James Edward Youker, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Youker James Edward has been practicing and serving as chairman of the radiology department at Froedtert Hospital of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa, WI, since 1996.

A board-certified radiologist of more than 60 years, Dr. Youker has been practicing and serving as chairman of the radiology department at Froedtert Hospital of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa, WI, since 1996. He has also been a longtime professor and chairman of the radiology department at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, since 1968. During his tenure in academia, he has served on the college's board of directors and as a member of the residency review commission for radiology. In previous years, Dr. Youker was the director of the radiology department at Milwaukee County General Hospital between 1968 and 1996, was in private practice in Corpus Christi, TX, between 1956 and 1958, and taught medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine between 1964 and 1967.

Dr. Youker served with Project Hope in Indonesia early in his career during 1961, a non-profit organization devoted to helping to improve the health and wellbeing of women, newborns and children, as well as people affected by respiratory diseases. He has since spent significant time consulting and lecturing for the Veterans Affairs Hospital of Richmond, VA, as well as in San Francisco and Martinez, CA, and Milwaukee, and for the Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco and the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA. He was also a visiting physician in the department of cardiology at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, member of the committee on diagnosis breast cancer taskforce with the National Institutes of Health, and was affiliated as a head physician of the North Division High School's health and medical science technical committee for the program planning committee. Furthermore, Dr. Youker was a visiting professor at both the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and the School of Medicine at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.

A member and past president of the American Board of Medical Specialties, Dr. Youker is also an elected fellow and past vice president, board of chancellors and vice chairman of the commission on cancer with the American College of Radiology. He is a longstanding member of multiple other organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Association of University Radiologists, the Medical Society of Milwaukee County, the Wisconsin Medical Society and the Wisconsin Radiological Society.

Dr. Youker was a New York State Regents scholar in 1946 and Buffalo Foundation scholar in 1952. He was also a grantee of the U.S. Public Health Service, Squibb Pharmaceuticals and the National Cancer Institute, among others. He has notably been cited in more than 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the Midwest.

Earning a Bachelor of Arts at Colgate University in 1950, Dr. Youker then completed a Doctor of Medicine at the University at Buffalo in 1954. He then interned at the University of Minneapolis and completed residency work in radiology at the University of Minnesota and in pathology at Georgetown University. He notably served 10 the U.S. Navy Medical Corps between 1956 and 1958.

Dr. Youker has been awarded the Gold Medals of the American Roentgen Ray Society, the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America and the Association of University Radiologists.
