Deedra Benthall, Esq.'s focus has been on litigation: civil and domestic matters, personal injury, and criminal defense.

DANVILLE, KY, March 19, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Deedra Benthall, Esq., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Benthall celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Deedra Benthall has been a solo practitioner in Danville, Kentucky, for more than 40 years. Her focus has been on litigation: civil and domestic matters, personal injury, and criminal defense.

After law school, Ms. Benthall served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Kentucky College of Law developing and teaching the Professional Responsibility course, which became required of all law students in the wake of Watergate. She also served as an appointed attorney for indigent criminal defendants. Her most memorable criminal case was securing a plea agreement for a juvenile charged with capital murder. Representative of her personal injury practice, she obtained significant settlements/verdicts in the wrongful death of a young man by electrocution in eastern Kentucky; a wrongful death of a two–year-old baby girl at a daycare when she drowned in an uncapped septic tank hole, and the death of a young man where the driver of a truck failed to have warning/turn signal lights on the trailer he was pulling leaving the victim unaware that the left turn lane was blocked by the truck and trailer.

In 1986, she was elected the first woman president of the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys (now the Kentucky Justice Association), a statewide plaintiff's lawyer organization. Deedra continues to serve on its Board of Governors, which seeks to improve the quality of legal representation for Kentucky families and to preserve the right to trial by jury.

One of her greatest honors was serving as Special Justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court writing the Court's opinion in Jones v. Forgy. Deedra is recognized with Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating (AV) and included in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers 2007 and the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers 2012.

For several years, Ms. Benthall took leave from her practice to work as Inspector General of three cabinets. The mission of the IG is to prevent fraud, waste and abuse in state government.

Originally from Evansville, Indiana, Ms. Benthall began her career at Wheaton College near Chicago graduating cum laude. She studied French Literature at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, her junior year. Then, she went on to earn her JD from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1971. She looks forward to the opportunity to employ her French skills teaching on the mission field in Haiti in the fall of 2019.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Deedra Benthall, Esq., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
