Neal Richard Gamsky has been recognized by numerous publications for his work, including Outstanding Educators in America and the Dictionary of International Biographies.

An academic vice president, the dean of student affairs and a clinical psychology educator at Illinois State University for 23 years, Dr. Gamsky initially worked at the academic institute as the director of the student counseling center in 1970. He further served Illinois State University as the acting dean of student affairs and a professor of psychology. Prior to his tenure at ISU, Dr. Gamsky served as the director of pupil personnel services and the director of research at the Cooperative Education Service Agency #13, the director of education and rehabilitation services at the Wisconsin Diagnostic Center and the high school counselor and teacher for the Appleton Area School District.

During the earlier part of his career, Dr. Gamsky maintained his own private practice as a counseling psychologist in Madison, Wis. between 1965 and 1967. He later contributed as an educational and counseling consultant for the Division of Mental Health for the state of Wisconsin between 1967 and 1968. Likewise, Dr. Gamsky held the positions of a practicum supervisor of doctoral students in counseling, a counselor of education and a lecturer in the department of behavioral studies at the University of Wisconsin between 1962 and 1970.

Dr. Gamsky is additionally affiliated with several professional societies, including the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the American Association for Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association. He has also been active on numerous boards and committees, including as the chairman of the Mental Health Task Force for Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children and a committee member for Vocational Rehabilitation Services for the Mentally Ill. Dr. Gamsky has further found success in numerous roles at ISU, including as the president of the Task Force on Student Growth and Development, a member of the president's academic administrative council and the administrative representative on the academic senate.

Writing extensively in his field, Dr. Gamsky has authored and co-authored a book, monograph and 24 peer reviewed journals since 1965. He was notably responsible for establishing the Dr. Neal R. Gamsky Endowed Assistantship in College Student Personnel Administration in 2005 at the Illinois State University. Dr. Gamsky was also the founder and the recipient of a Quality Student Life Award from Illinois State University in 1991 and has been recognized by numerous publications for his work, including Outstanding Educators in America, the Dictionary of International Biographies and approximately 15 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the Midwest.

Attending the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Gamsky earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology in 1954, Master of Science in guidance in 1959 and a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling-psychology in 1965. He also completed additional coursework in both law and counseling at the University of Wisconsin between 1958 and 1960. Furthermore, Dr. Gamsky notably served as a director of the legal section of the U.S. Army in Munich, Germany, between 1954 and 1956.
