With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Cwiertniak has worked in his private practice since 2002. Prior to his current role, he served as a college counselor with Triton College from 1985 to 2002, a school psychologist with Aero Special Education Cooperative from 1984 to 1986, and a university counselor with the University of Wisconsin from 1978 to 1984. From 1973 to 1976, he worked as a school psychologist and special education coordinator with high School District #214 in Illinois. He served as head night librarian at Chicago State University from 1970 to 1971. Earlier in his career, Dr. Cwiertniak found success as a junior high school teacher at Our Lady Gate of Heaven School from 1968 to 1970 and as a teacher and track coach at Gordon Technical High School from 1967 to 1968, both in Chicago.
Dr. Cwiertniak began his career as a student at St. Joseph's College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and psychology in 1967. He then enrolled at Chicago State University, obtaining a Master of Science in Education in 1969, specifically for counseling. He concluded his studies in 1973 with the University of Northern Colorado, graduating with a Doctor of Education in counseling psychology. Dr. Cwiertniak is certified as a professional counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors. In addition he is a licensed psychologist in Wisconsin and a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois. Previously, Dr. Cwiertniak was certified as a counselor, school psychologist and as a teacher of math, psychology and sociology by the Illinois State Board of Education.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Cwiertniak has been affiliated with a number of organizations in his community. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and the American Federation of Teachers. An editor of "Coursewise-Perspectives in Abnormal Psychology," Dr. Cwiertniak has maintained involvement with various workshops and seminars as a lecturer.
Serving as adjunct faculty at Dominican University, Dr. Cwiertniak has contributed as an advisor to the Metro Chicago Disability Programs and Out Lady Gate of Heaven School. Likewise, he is the founder of Blue Bead Trading Company and Full Earth Book Cooperative. Throughout his career, Dr. Cwiertniak has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who Among American Teachers.
