Sachiko Ann Welsh Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Sachiko Ann Welsh was given the Imperial Commendation and Medal known as The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays in Tokyo in 2017.

An accomplished listee, Sachiko Ann Welsh celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. From 1996 to 2004, Ms. Welsh was an adjunct professor of the Japanese language at the University of South Florida. Prior to this appointment, she was a media specialist and Japanese language teacher at Dade County Public Schools in Miami, FL from 1979 to 1994. Before coming to the United States in 1957, she was an administrative assistant at the United States Information Agency in Tokyo, Japan from 1953 to 1956. Her first professional position was as a secretary at CBS-TV, NBC-TV and United Press International in Tokyo, Japan from 1950 to 1953.

Additionally, Ms. Welsh has been a translator and interpreter of English and Japanese since 1952. She also spent time as an instructor on Japanese history and culture for the Osher Lifelong Institute at the University of South Florida from 2009 to 2015. During this time, she was a planner and presenter of Japanese immersion programs for secondary schools from 2002 to 2012. She is particularly proud of all of her students who have gone on to achieve great things. For 11 years until 2015, she served as the treasurer for Asia-American Coalition of Florida working to present annual Asia-Fests and other cultural events in the Tampa Bay region.

Ms. Welsh pursued academics at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, where she earned a Bachelor of General Studies, cum laude, in 1978. She continued her studies at Florida State University, where she obtained a Master of Library Sciences in 1981.

Now, as an established professional, Ms. Welsh has authored such works as "Shadow of a Monster Plane" in 2008. She has also contributed articles to the Tampa Tribune and various journals. She notably wrote and produced the stage play "Shakespeare, Meet My Computer" in Miami in 1983. From 1992 to 1994, Ms. Welsh was the producer and host of "Ichiban," a multi-media Japanese language instruction program.

Some of Ms. Welsh's other achievements include serving as a motivator and organizer for starting the Japanese Teachers Association in the state of Florida. Furthermore, she was the first teacher who rallied to make the Japanese language an accredited language in secondary schools. The accumulation of these efforts formed the Association of Florida Teachers of Japanese.

In acknowledgement of these many achievements, Ms. Welsh was given the Imperial Commendation and Medal known as The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays in Tokyo in 2017. Additionally, she accepted the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendation in 2014 and Teacher of the Year Awards from Dade County, FL in 1983 and 1985. In 1986, she was a Fulbright scholar in the United States Department of Education in Japan. She has previously been featured in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who of American Women.
