With more than 25 years of professional experience, Mr. Hansen most recently served as deputy coordinator of disaster and emergency services for Sweet Grass County and the city of Big Timber, MT, from 1978 until his retirement from the industry in 2004. In addition to his primary role, he served as sheriffs' dispatcher from 1984 to 1990 and assistant drug and alcohol counselor from 1984 to 1985. Earlier in his career, he was a justice of the peace for Sweet Grass County from 1978 to 1983 and assistant city and county planner from 1977 to 1978.
Mr. Hansen began his career as a student at Montana State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in government in 1974. He continued his studies with the university, earning a Master of Science in earth sciences in 1976. Alongside his primary career endeavors, he served as a sports announcer at his local high school and is affiliated with Montana on a Mission. Likewise, he was a commencement speaker for Sweet Grass County Schools and member of the Hyalite Challenge Steering Committee and the Big Timber Christian Men's Fellowship, where he also twice served as president from 1982 to 1983 and again from 1991 to 1992.
Demonstrating versatility in his profession, Mr. Hansen has also authored six books: "In the Days of Peleg," "Unto the Ends of the Earth," "Sinai," "Edwin, the Elegant Elephant," "The Poignant Sacrifice" and "Destiny Team," which received an honorable mention at the Great Northwest Book Festival.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hansen has been recognized for his contributions. A Starr Ford Scholar and Jane Buttrey Memorial Fund Scholar, he received the Americanism Award and Scholarship from the American Legion and the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Award in 1970. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 24th edition of Who's Who in the West.
