Dr. Shil is a scientist who has been employed with the National Institute of Virology in Pune, Maharashtra, India, since 2009. Conducting and teaching in virus research, his specific research areas include bioinformatics applications in virology, mathematic biology and biophysics.
Responsible for designing, developing and teaching mathematical biology courses for Master of Science in Virology curriculum at the home institute, Dr. Shil was notably a teaching associate in the School of Basic Medical Science at the University of Pune from 2007 to 2008. He was also a visiting faculty member at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Pune in 2007.
Over the years, Dr. Shil has conducted extensive research in the electroporation-based enhancement of cytotoxicity of doxorubicin and radiation in cancer cells, as well as mathematical modeling of cell electroporation. Later he has contributed to mathematical modeling of viral epidemics in India. He has since contributed to 30 articles in various professional journals, including in the Journal of Environmental Pathology, Toxicology and Oncology, the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, the Indian Journal of Medical Research, the Archives of Virology and the Journal of Mosquito Research.
The recipient of a Young Scientist Award from the Indian Biophysical Society in 2005, Dr. Shil also received an R.K. Bhalla Memorial Best Ph.D. Student Award from the University of Pune and the Indian Physics Association in 2004 and a First Prize Award from the Shilpam Arts School in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, in 1991. Furthermore, he received a scholarship from the Department of Atomic Energy with the Government of India between 2002 and 2006. He has been cited in the second edition of Who's Who in Asia and several editions of Who's Who in the World between 2008 and 2013.
Born in Kolkata, Dr. Shil later received a Doctor of Philosophy in physics from the University of Pune in 2006. In his free time, he enjoys painting and traveling. Believing in the importance of giving back, Dr. Shil also participated with the Children's Rehabilitation and You in Pune, where he sponsored children's education between 2004 and 2013.
