With 65 years of professional excellence under his belt, Mr. Bekey is currently a leading innovator in advanced space system concepts and technologies, supporting the US National Security Space Program at The Aerospace Corporation. He assumed this position after retiring from a position as Director, Advanced Concepts, at NASA Headquarters. At the start of his career, he worked as a section leader for flight controls at the Douglas Aircraft Co. in Santa Monica California, and as a senior Radar engineer at RCA in Los Angeles. He then switched to the space field in a series of positions of increasing management responsibility for Space Systems Engineering starting at Space Technology Laboratories, and then for two decades at The Aerospace Corporation. He then entered public service as the Director for Advanced Programs at NASA Headquarters. During this period he also served the National Space Council in the White House, coordinating government-wide space activities. After leaving the government he set up his own company, Bekey Designs Inc. as a private Space consultancy to industry and government entities, before re-joining The Aerospace Corporation to innovate National Security Advanced Space Systems.

A recognized expert in his field, Mr. Bekey holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical and control systems engineering from UCLA, which he earned in 1954 and 1959, respectively. In the mid-1980s, he also completed the Senior Managers in Government Program at the Kennedy School of Harvard College in Massachusetts. He has been professionally recognized as a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Fellow of the International Academy of Astronautics, and Fellow of the Washington Academy of Sciences. His excellence in the field was recognized by numerous awards including the Exceptional Service Medal from NASA, recognition of leadership in various NASA task forces including one on Space Stations and another on next generation launch vehicles, and for starting all National programs on Space Tethers.

Mr. Bekey served the Nation on the Naval Studies Board, on a number of studies of The Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, and on The Army of the Future study. With a lifetime of space engineering knowledge at his disposal, Mr. Bekey authored the seminal book "Advanced Space System Concepts and Technologies: 2010-2030" and "Dealing with the threat of asteroid impacts on Earth; and edited the book "Space Stations and Space Platforms: Concepts, Design, Infrastructure and Uses". Looking forward, Mr. Bekey intends to continue contributing to National Security Space systems with revolutionary concepts and technologies. During off time he also serves on the Cosmos Club's committees and on his Community's Association.
