Brenda Kay Ledford Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Brenda Kay Ledford was the winner of the 2000 Journalist Contest through the North Carolina Press Association and the 1998 Photo Contest through the Writers' Journal.

Throughout the years, Ms. Ledford's written works have appeared in Old Mountain Press, Our State Magazine and Angels on Earth Magazine, among other publications. She is a former editor of the Tri-County C.C. Newspaper and a former freelance writer for the Smoky Mountain Sentinel in Hayesville, N.C. Furthermore, Ms. Ledford excelled as a storyteller for the Clay Revitalization Association in Hayesville between 1999 and 2001.

A writing instructor at the John Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. in 2000, Ms. Ledford began her career in academia as an educator within the Cherokee County Board of Education in Murphy, N.C. between 1976 and 1990. Previously, she was a clerk and typist for the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Washington between 1970 and 1971. Earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in education at Western Carolina University in 1976 and 1979, respectively, Ms. Ledford is a certified teacher in the state of North Carolina.

Ms. Ledford is affiliated as a member of several writing and poetry organizations, including the Byron Herbert Reese Society, the Directory of Poets and Fiction Writers, the North Carolina Writers Network, the North Carolina Storytelling Guild and the North Carolina Writers Network. She is a member of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce in North Carolina and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Moreover, she was formerly active as a member of the board of directors, the secretary and a poetry contest judge for the Clay County Arts Council. Ms. Ledford is also associated with the Clay chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, from which she notably received an Angels Among Us Award in 1999.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Ledford was the winner of the 2000 Journalist Contest through the North Carolina Press Association and the 1998 Photo Contest through the Writers' Journal. She has been additionally selected for inclusion in the 57th through 61st editions of Who's Who in America and the 24th edition of Who's Who of American Women. Furthermore, Ms. Ledford has been presented with 10 Paul Green Multimedia Awards from the North Carolina Society of Historians for her blog between 2005 and 2017.
