Mr. Berger enjoyed a wonderful 35-year career, first in microbiology and later in marketing and sales for microbiological products. Hired as a microbiologist by Wyeth Laboratories Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1965, he later worked in the same capacity for Rohm & Haas in Spring House, Pennsylvania, from 1968 to 1971 before becoming a product manager for Humko Sheffield Chemical in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, for another five years. Deciding to move into technical sales since he had a master's degree, Mr. Berger began his new venture as the director of sales and marketing with Boehringer Mannheim in Indianapolis in 1976. Very successful, he was later promoted to vice president of sales and marketing with Marcor Development Corp. in Hackensack, New Jersey. A leading ingredient supplier to the health, nutrition, microbiology, fermentation, pharmaceutical and food markets, Mr. Berger remained with the organization for 18 years before retiring in 2000.
Although he is fully retired, Mr. Berger continues to serve as the president and consultant for B/B Associates since 2001. He is also a longtime member of the board of directors for the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, where he formerly served as a corporate membership committee chairman and exhibits chairman and was the recipient of the 1992 Charles Potter Award. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the American Chemical Society as well. Locally, he has been active as a third-degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Berger is notably a former treasurer and member of the board of directors for the Brookside Heights Condominium Association in Wanaque, New Jersey, too.
Originally inspired by his grandfather who was in sales and his uncle, a former analytical chemist for Lederle Laboratories, Mr. Berger went on to college to pursue similar interests. First receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College in New York City in 1962, he continued his studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he earned a Master of Science in 1964. In light of all his accomplishments, Mr. Berger has previously been featured in Who's Who in the East.
Married to Bonnie K. Rumpff for many years, Mr. Berger is the proud father of three children and grandfather to 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys photography and collecting stamps and coins.
