A managing partner at Morgan, Herring, Morgan, Green & Rosenblutt, LLP, Mr. Morgan also served three terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives representing Guilford County. During his tenure, he also maintained involvement in his community, having served as president or chair of over 75 organizations. He was founding chair ofthe High Point Community Foundation, Cornerstone Charitable Foundation, and Guilford Education Alliance, Master of the bench emeritus of the Guilford American Inn court, and chair emeritus of the High Point Economic Development Corp. Mr. Morgan also serves as chair of the High Point Preservation Society, Welcome High Point, and High Point First.

On a statewide level, Mr. Morgan was president or chairman of the North Carolina Jaycees, the Metropolitan chamber of Commerce, the United Way of North Carolina, the North Carolina council of Bar Presidents and the North Carolina commission on Legal Aid. Regionally, he served as Chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the YMCA of High Point, Guilford Technical Community College, Alcohol and Drug Services of Guilford and the High Point Arts Council, among several other organizations.

Business organizations with which Mr. Morgan has chaired include the High Point Chamber of Commerce, the High Point Merchants Association, the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the High Point Historic District Commission. He also has been chairman of the scholarship committees for the High Point Jaycees, Nido Quebin Scholarship, and was Chairman of the Building Committees for the High Point Country Club, the Macedonia Family Resource Center, the Hospice Home at High Point. Likewise, he was the founding chair of the first community swim meet as the manager of the Sheraton Hills Swim club in 1964 and served as Chairman of the YMCA Board of Trustees in 1989, where he commenced the annual Easter Prayer Breakfast. A founding member of the High Point Market Authority.

Throughout his career, Mr. Morgan has also contributed greatly to the Christ United Methodist Church, where he served as chair of the board of trustees, delegate to the Western North Carolina Conference, lay leader, and president of the Men's Club and superintendent of the Sunday School Department. In addition, he has maintained affiliation with the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the High Point Bar Association, the North Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the Guilford County Bar Association. Furthermore, Mr. Morgan is a member of the Masons and Shriners, having previously been active as a member of Phi Alpha Delta.

Among the notable highlights of his career, Mr. Morgan is most proud of his time spent as president of the High Point Jaycees, where he served over 200 members. Over time, the president of the North Carolina Jaycees offered him a position as vice president, and he subsequently ascended the ranks to state president, where he was chosen as one of the best state presidents in the nation. Additionally, he is proud of his time spent as one of the youngest members of the North Carolina Legislature at the age of 32.

In light of his exemplary achievements, Mr. Morgan has accrued numerous honors and accolades. In 2018, he was named Professional of the Year for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Law, and he won the Star Award for Outstanding Board Member by the High Point Arts Council and the Margaret B. Arbuckle Award for Passionate, Tireless Advocacy for Children and Public Education. Honored as Philanthropist of the Year by the North Carolina Triad Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, he also received the Citizen Lawyer Award from the North Carolina Bar Association in 2017, the Alexis de Tocqueville-Fleur de Lis Award from the United Way in 2016, and a Special Congressman Recognition for Outstanding and Invaluable Community Service from Congressman Howard Coble.

Mr. Morgan was also presented with a Service Award from the Family Promise of Greater Guilford in 2014, a Lifetime achievement award from the Arthritis Foundation in 2013 and an Individual Support of the Arts Award from the High Point Arts Council in 2013. An AV Preeminent Rated Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell, he was recognized by The Wall Street Journal, the Charlotte Observer and the American Lawyer for his prestige in the legal arena. In 2010, he was inducted into the General Practice Hall of Fame by the North Carolina Bar Association, having also been eponymously honored with the Ann and Jim Morgan Community Room at the High Point Public Library and presented with the Good Friend Award by the YWCA.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Morgan received the Founders Award from the North Carolina Heart Association in 1971, the Linn B. Garibaldi Award for Most Outstanding Local Jaycees president in 1971, Young Man of the Year for High Point on two occasions and One of the Five Outstanding Young Men in North Carolina on two occasions, 1973 & 1974, and the Freedom Guard Award for Outstanding Service in Community, Religious and Governmental Activities in 1978. He received the Order of Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's Highest Civilian Honor by Governor Holhouser and Governor Hunt. Ranked one of the top three most influential legislators by the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1980, he was recognized as Distinguished Legislator of the Year and was inducted into the United States Jaycees Hall of Leadership in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1985. The High Point Chamber of Commerce further presented him with the Distinguished Citizens Award, and he received the first North Carolina/High Point Bar Centennial Award for Exemplary Community Service in 1999. Impressively, Mr. Morgan was eponymously honored with the Ann and Jim Morgan Community Room at Guilford Technical Community College in 2005.

Married to Ann Tinsley Morgan, Mr. Morgan has two children and six grandchildren. His daughter Lea is a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the University of North Carolina Law School in Chapel Hill and practices as an attorney. His son Jef is a graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh and is employed by Smart Choice. His children and grandchildren live in Charlotte and High Point, North Carolina. In his spare time, Mr. Morgan enjoys dancing, sand volleyball and yardwork.
