Jeffrey Lee Peters is a fellow of the Association for Academic Psychiatry and a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Wooster in 1976, Dr. Peters went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine from Case Western Reserve University in 1980. A diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with additional qualifications in addiction and geriatric psychiatry, he currently works as a staff psychiatrist at the Doris Miller VA Medical Center in Waco, TX. Dr. Peters initially worked as a staff psychiatrist at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, advancing to chief of psychiatry and associate chief of staff. He has also served the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as assistant professor and associate professor.

From 1986 to 1987, Dr. Peters worked as associate director of the Schizophrenia Research Unit in Pittsburgh, and he has also worked as a clozapine REMS prescriber and with DEA buprenorphine waiver management. He was president of the Pittsburgh Psychiatric Society in 2004, and he worked with the faculty and planning committee of the National VA Behavioral Health Leadership Training Program from 1999 to 2017, along with the National VA Psychiatry Mentor Program from 2015 to 2017. A knowledgeable member of his field, Dr. Peters has contributed numerous articles to professional journals.

Once he got involved with medical school, Dr. Peters developed a persistent interest in psychiatry. His career is full of notable accomplishments, and he is especially proud of this extensive work with war veterans. Demonstrating unmatched professional ability, Dr. Peters has been the recipient of several awards, including the National Institute of Mental Health's National Research Service Award in 1984, the Laughlin Award for National Psychiatric Endowment in 1983, the VA Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service's Director's Award in 1993, the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Special Contribution Award in 2001 and the Biographical Institute's Man of the Year Award in 2003, among others. He was also named one of Consumer Research Council America's Top Psychiatrists in 2007 and 2010 and a Top Doctor in Waco in 2017.

Dr. Peters is a fellow of the Association for Academic Psychiatry and a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He also belongs to the National Association of VA Chiefs of Psychiatry. In light of his contributions to his field, Dr. Peters was included in the first edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, as well as the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the East. He was also honored by Who's Who Among Young American Professionals in 1992.
