With 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Hauser has been recognized as an astronomer emeritus with the Space Telescope Science Institute since 2011, having excelled as an astronomer with the organization since 2009, and deputy director since 1995. Prior to these roles, he held a number of positions with the Goddard Space Flight Center, including the chief of the astronomy and solar physics laboratory from 1988 to 1995, and the head of infrared astrophysics from 1974 to 1987. Earlier in his career, Dr. Hauser worked as a senior research fellow with the California Institute of Technology from 1972 to 1974 and both an assistant professor and an instructor with Princeton University from 1967 to 1972.

Dr. Hauser initially pursued an education at Cornell University, earning Bachelor of Science in engineering physics, with distinction, in 1962. He concluded his studies at the California Institute of Technology, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1967. A Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Hauser has been affiliated with the American Astronomical Society, the International Astronomical Union, and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hauser has been celebrated for his contributions to his field. He has accepted multiple awards and accolades for his achievements. Likewise, Dr. Hauser has been featured in numerous publications including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the East.
