Lillian Boly Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Boly has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in education

FLORISSANT, MO, April 08, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who is proud to present Lillian Byronell Boly with the Albert Nelson Marquis lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Boly celebrates many years' experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Lillian Byronell Boly was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 2S, 1929, the daughter of Joseph R. Boly, Jr., and Pearl Park Boly. The family, including two older sisters, moved to a farm southwest of Poplar Bluff in Butler County, Missouri, in June 1929. She grew up on the farm and attended a one-room school. Her teacher at Pleasant Hill School was Charlotte Gray (later Burge), who may be a big reason Lillian wanted to be a teacher.

Ms. Boly graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1945, attended Southeast Missouri State College that summer, took a state teacher's exam to get a certificate, and began teaching in a one-room school in August. She taught three years in one-room schools, and then attended college for the year 1948-49. In 1949 she began teaching at Naylor Elementary School in Ripley County, Missouri. She taught third and fourth grades there until 1954. She moved to Riverview Gardens School District, in north St. Louis County, in 1954. She taught second grade one year and fourth grade for eight years at Riverview Elementary School until 1963. Then she moved to Riverview High School and taught English classes until she retired in 1990. At Riverview High she was sponsor of Future Teachers of America for the years 1971-76. She was sponsor of the senior literary publication, Spectrum, for 1979-83.

Ms. Boly earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeast Missouri State College (now University) in 1955. She received a Master of Arts in Education from Washington University in St. Louis in 1964. She did post-graduate work at Washington University and at the University of Oregon. In the summer of 1967 she was a participant in an NDEA Institute at the University of Oregon, Eugene. She is certified to teach elementary school and high school English and Social Studies.

Ms. Boly has continued her professional development with involvement in professional organizations. She was a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the Missouri Association of Teachers of English for the years 1963-93. She was vice president of the St. Louis Suburban Teachers of English in 1970-71 and president in 1971-72 and a member of the board of directors until 1978.

She also served the Riverview Gardens NEA as convention delegate, treasurer and president. She is a life member of the National Education Association, and has attended four of their conventions.

She joined the Ferguson-Florissant AAUW in 1973 and has served as vice-president, president, newsletter editor, and treasurer. She was invited to join the St. Louis chapter of Phi Delta Kappa in 1974, one of the first women to join PDK, which was originally for men only.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Boly has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
