Robert Earle Morgan, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An expert in French grammar and culture as well as analytic geometry, algebra and trigonometry, Dr. Morgan has been designated as a professor emeritus of French and mathematics at Gardner-Webb University since 1998, having previously taught and chaired the department of foreign languages. Prior to his tenured career at Gardner-Webb University, he held the position of a teacher at Wingate College from 1959 to 1967 and Wadesboro High School in North Carolina from 1956 to 1959. Furthermore, Dr. Morgan is the author of two books, "Portrait of Myself" in 1965 and "Developmental Mathematics" in 1983, in addition to an unpublished manuscript titled "And I Go Searching."

During his career, Dr. Morgan served as an education program evaluator for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. He serves as an event staff member of The Foundation Center for the Performing Arts at Isothermal Community College. Moreover, Dr. Morgan maintained involvement with the Christian service organization at Gardner-Webb University.

Born and raised in a Baptist church, Dr. Morgan has been very active not only in his church, but also his community, his college and the world. During his career, he notably volunteered his time as a Sunday school teacher, the chair of the memorial committee and a member of the burial committee at his church and as the treasurer of the Green River Baptist Association. Dr. Morgan was also active as the board chairman of the Green Hill Community Center, the chairman of the board of the Green Hill Volunteer Fire Department and a member of such organizations as Chi Beta Phi, Mu Sigma Epsilon, Sigma Zeta, Phi Theta Chi, Alpha Chi, and Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. Morgan has traveled to all seven continents, visiting 53 different nations.

Dr. Morgan initially pursued an education at Lenoir-Rhyne College, earning an undergraduate degree in 1956. He continued his studies with a Master of Education in 1961 at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Morgan concluded his academic efforts at the University of North Carolina in 1971, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy.

The recipient of a 1956 J.R. Anderson Memorial Mathematics Award, Dr. Morgan also accepted a Special Citation Ministerial Board Award in 1977, a Fleming-White Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1988 and a 10-Year Award for Event Staffing at Isothermal Community College. Dr. Morgan endowed four scholarships at Gardner-Webb over the years, including the Robert Morgan Academic Fellows Scholarship, the Robert Morgan Christian Service Scholarship, the Gilbert and Sue Morgan Scholarship, and the Don and Becky Morgan Scholarship. He also joined the late Dr. Charles Andrews in establishing an endowment for the Department of Foreign Language. Published in 41 biographical publications, Dr. Morgan has also been featured in the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
