Beginning his career as an attorney at the international law firm of Sidley Austin in 1999, he later accepted a position with Wells Fargo in 2005 where he was promoted to senior vice president and managing director at the age of 30. In 2011, Mr. Miller joined BNY Mellon as a national wealth strategist.
In 2016, Mr. Miller was elected as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a non-profit association of lawyers and law professors skilled and experienced in the preparation of wills and trusts, estate planning, probate procedure and administration of trusts and estates. Elected as a fellow of the American Bar Foundation that same year, he is also a member of the Bar of the United States Tax Court and the State Bar of California. Also associated with the executive committee of the taxation section of the State Bar of California and the executive committee of the taxation section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Mr. Miller has been affiliated with the Century City Bar Association as the chair of the taxation section and the American Bar Association in various leadership positions for the section of real property, trust and estate law.
A keynote speaker at dozens of conferences hosted by major universities and professional associations, Mr. Miller is a notable author in the fields of taxation, estate planning and family governance, having had his works published in numerous prestigious publications. A former editor-in-chief of the California Tax Lawyer publication, he also penned his first middle-grade children's book in 2017, entitled "The Super Secret Special Powers Club." In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Miller has a long history of volunteering his time for charitable endeavors, including as a member of the board of directors of the California Bar Foundation, a member of the board of directors of the Constitutional Rights Foundation and a participant in the Bar Association of San Francisco Landlord Tenant Project.
In 2017, Mr. Miller was presented with the V. Judson Klein Award by the State Bar of California taxation section, an award presented annually to a California attorney who exemplifies imaginative intellect, a true passion for the law, great personal integrity and legal professionalism. That same year, he also received the Outstanding Conference Speaker Award by the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, which is the largest statewide professional association of certified public accountants in the U.S. Mr. Miller has also been featured as an industry expert in the media multiple times in such publications as the American Bar Association Journal, Bloomberg News, the Chicago Lawyer, Crain's Wealth, and The Wall Street Journal.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Mr. Miller attended Palisades High School, where he began taking college level courses in physics and calculus at the age of 15. By the age of 16, he was offered early acceptance into the University of California at Los Angeles honors program. He was also a concertmaster of his high school orchestra, an all-city varsity tennis player and starting offensive lineman on the varsity football team. Notably, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in music with honors in less than three years at the University of California at Berkeley in 1995, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Master of Laws in taxation at New York University School of Law in 1999, where he participated in an accelerated joint degree program. Mr. Miller has been certified as a financial planner, a trust and estate practitioner and an accredited estate planner.
