Dr. Kathleen S. Roos brings a keen sense of expertise to her position as a professor of biology at the University of La Verne.

Celebrating nearly 50 years in her profession, Dr. Roos brings a keen sense of expertise to her position as a professor of biology at the University of La Verne. She developed an interest in science as a child and was naturally drawn to the field of biology. After receiving her degrees, she commenced her career in the biological sciences as Assistant Director of Biological Science with Environmental Analysis, Inc. She went on to serve in several executive positions in the field of environmental science and engineering throughout her career. She briefly served as an environmental advisor to the Government of Thailand, as well as a technical advisor to the Soviet Union through the US Ambassador Program and National Academy of Science. While presenting US environmental concerns to the former Soviet Union, she shared how US military was adhering to environmental compliance in the United States to the total disbelief of the Soviet people and their country's ministries.

In addition to her primary roles in environmental science, Dr. Roos has published or co-authored over twenty publications in technical journals and newsletters identifying new technological advances in environmental and biological science. She has written for the American Petroleum Institute, the Journal of Environmental Regulation, and the Journal of Environmental Technology. As an environment scientist, she served the Department of Defense as a civilian and served as The Chief Environmental Engineer for the Multinational Forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Dr. Roos received numerous environmental awards from the US EPA, the State of California and the Secretary of the Navy. From her Norwalk, CT High School, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Science and Technology. For her service in Iraq she was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense the Civilian Service Medal, by the DOD she was awarded the Civilian Service medial for serving in the Global War on Terror in 2009 and received many other medals and honors as a testament to her knowledge in her field.

In her spare time, Dr. Roos completed 4 Ironman triathlons, fifty-two marathons and a number of ultra-distance events including a rim to rim to rim run across the Grand Canyon and a bicycle ride of 460 miles on Route 66 back to California from the North Rim. She continues to teach yoga and fitness at the Naval Base in Ventura County and plays the violin for the Ventura College Orchestra. She volunteers for the Channel Islands National Park, and the Channel Islands Maritime Museum and enjoys environmental field studies with her Laverne students, walking her dog, hiking, and adventure travel. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hartwick College, a Master of Science from Long Island University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia Southern University.
