George Burnet was presented with a Faculty Citation from Iowa State University, an Iowa Citizen Chemical Engineer Award, and the Unsung Hero Award.

Supported by an impressive 70 years of professional excellence, Dr. Burnet is currently designated as dean emeritus with Iowa State University, where he has held a number of roles over the years, including as the professor of chemical engineering, the head of the department of chemical engineering, the chairman of the department of nuclear engineering, the associate dean of engineering for outreach and external affairs, the interim dean of engineering and Anson Marston distinguished professor. At the beginning of his career, he served to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and remained active for 20 years in the United States Army Reserves. Additionally, Dr. Burnet has found success in varying positions for the Commercial Solvents Corporation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the National Science Foundation.

An expert in his field, Dr. Burnet has earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy from Iowa State University. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, he is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Iowa Academy of Science, the American Chemical Society, the American Association of Engineering Societies and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Beyond his primary responsibilities, Dr. Burnet contributed to his community through the Boy Scouts of America and the National Science Board Commission for Pre-College Education.

For his professional accomplishments, Dr. Burnet was presented with a Faculty Citation from Iowa State University, an Iowa Citizen Chemical Engineer Award, and the Unsung Hero Award. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is most proud of serving as president of the American Society for Engineering Education. Looking toward the future, Dr. Burnet intends to continue in his role as dean emeritus.
