HOMEWOOD, IL, April 11, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Willetta M. Gary with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Gary celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. After accruing 45 years of professional excellence, Ms. Gary retired from Langston Hughes Elementary School in 2006, where she worked as teacher, counselor and case manager beginning in 1994; she also served as a substitute teacher here from 2006 to 2015. Earlier in her career, she gained valuable industry experience through her work at Chicago Public Schools as a teacher between 1970 and 2006 and the State Newspaper for Illinois Ushers as an editor since 2017. She has further been a certified test proctor for police, firefighters, Cook County jailers and officers in Illinois, as well as a counselor for individual and group counseling, where she held monthly meetings for special education programs. Notably, she was also a case manager for Child Protective Services, performed clerical work and held monthly staff meetings.
Locally involved as well, Ms. Gary has served as an inspirational speaker at churches and local and state conventions and has written curriculum in careers for the Chicago Board of Education in Reading and Mathematics. A volunteer for the Democratic Caucus, she also volunteers at homeless shelters, teaches Sunday school and vacation Bible school courses, and maintains affiliation with We Are Concerned World Literary Program, an organization to help inner-city students develop mathematics and reading skills. From 1993 to 2003, she also taught mathematics lessons on Channel 19, the UHF PBS station for education, as well as performed voiceovers for reading and mathematics for schools on the west and south sides of Chicago. Ms. Gary has aired on a series of bi-weekly television programs as a teacher instructor for enhancing vocabulary, reading and math. Her voice over artistry can be heard on literacy tapes in over 50 churches in the Chicagoland area; an organization entitled, "We Are Concerned," which is a project literacy program. She has been a volunteer for this program for four years.
In addition to her primary and civic endeavors, Ms. Gary contributed to the Homework Policy Program, where she takes great pride in promoting educational success and development. Believing that each child must develop self-esteemed and be encouraged to develop academic success in a global society, she stands behind the notion that completing homework assignments is the key to success. With the help from teachers and tutors, she trusts that children will get the necessary answers and develop a broader range of knowledge, which will help them in their future undertakings and education careers.
An expert in her field, Ms. Gary has held a Bachelor of Science in education from Chicago State University since December 1969, where she also earned a Master of Science in administration and supervision in 1979 and a Master of Science in psychology in 1989. She remains associated with the Queen of Hearts section of the Red Hat Society and the South End Unit League of Ushers, where she served as president from 2014 to 2016. From 2014 to 2016 the State of Illinois had her do a revival for the ushers for the State of Illinois.
A member of the Zeta Tau Zeta chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Ms. Gary is also a junior and youth supervisor for Archonettes, Amicettes and Pearlettes attending "Meal from the Heart" through the Ronald McDonald House, and she has maintained involvement in the induction of youth ceremonies and conferences. She is a member of the DuSable Museum of African American History and the Chicago Urban League. She was the Vice President of the DuSable League. The League plans to erect a statue and a park honoring Jean Baptiste Point DuSable as their founder and first permanent settler in Chicago, Illinois and still part of the steering committee. In addition, she has been a frequent member of the social and fundraiser committee and the 50th anniversary committee of the sorority. Most recently, she serves as a public relations coordinator for the National Panhellenic Council, Chicago, where she advised high school and alumna organizations for community outreach approved programs by the president.
She is a counselor and case manager for screening and staffing cases with the nurse, social worker, psychologist, speech pathologist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, etc. for the domain being considered in special education. She has been a certified test proctor for policemen, firemen and the Department of Corrections and other municipal departments in the city of Chicago. Currently, exams are given online as of the 21st century.
Believing that everyone should hold marketable skills in order to work, Ms. Gary was inspired by her former teachers to enter the field of education, where she can leverage her social work talents to help those less fortunate. Aiding children, prisoners and immigrant refugees, she has dedicated her life to making the world a better place. In light of her excellence in the field, she was honored for outstanding and dedicated services for Illinois and local and state Usher programs and conferences. She was also honored for individual and group counseling at the Chicago Public Schools in 2018. Impressively, she was selected for inclusion in the 21st edition of Who's Who of American Women. Looking ahead, Ms. Gary intends to continue enjoying her retirement with her children, Keith, Tiffany and Diamond, her grandchildren, Willetta, II and Jamal, and three great granddaughters.
