Stephen Weiner is a long-tenured attorney with over 50 years of experience in the industry. For decades, Mr. Weiner was with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, serving in several capacities throughout all of the firm's name changes and transitions. He has maintained a focus primarily on litigation in federal and state courts, with emphasis in the securities, commercial, banking and insurance areas. Throughout his career he has defended many class action suits, and has served in many auxiliary positions in legal organizations, all helping to establish him as a respected leader.
Mr. Weiner began on his career path at Harvard University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts. After graduating, he was deciding between continuing on to Harvard Business School, or attending Yale Law School. He chose Yale, and the rest is history. He received a Juris Doctor in 1957, graduating cum laude and Order of the Coif. He was then admitted to practice in the state of New York, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
In 1958, he began what would become a career-long tenure with Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP). He began as an associate in 1958, and in 1968 he was made a partner of the firm. From 1965 to 1968, he served a stint as an adjunct professor of law at the University of California, Berkeley. He served in a number of capacities with his firm over the years. From 1984 to 1997 he was Vice Chairman of the Management Committee, and starting in 2002 he began to serve as senior counsel.
Outside of his work at the firm, Mr. Weiner has held a number of other roles with various institutions. Since 2011, he has served as an arbitrator for FINRA, and he also currently holds adjunct professorships at Benjamin Cardozo School of Law and Brooklyn Law School. He is a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the 1st Department Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York, and serves as Special Master for the Court. He is also a member of the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law. He has contributed a number of articles to professional journals, and was a comment editor of the Yale Law Journal.
Mr. Weiner is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and is a trustee of the Federal Bar Council. He is AV rated attorney, and has been featured in 'Best Lawyers in America.' Throughout his career, he has maintained affiliation with a number of professional organizations, including the American Bar Foundation, the New York Bar Foundation, the Federal Bar Council, and the New York City Bar Association.
