Susan Owens Hamilton was named among Girl Scouts Women of Distinction in 2003, Corporate Leader of the Year in 2007 by Women in Business, and received a Hands on Jacksonville Community Award in 2014.

Supported by years of professional experience and an exceptional education, Ms. Hamilton found success as a lawyer and a transportation executive from 1977 to 2019. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University in 1973, she furthered obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Samford University in 1977. Furthermore, she was admitted to practice law by the Florida Bar and the Alabama State Bar Association, beginning her career as a claim agent with the Seaboard System Railroad Inc. in 1977. Ms. Hamilton later held a number of posts with the aforementioned railroad system, such as an attorney, a claim attorney, an assistant general solicitor, and the general manager of freight claim services until 1985.

After the company merged with Chessie System Inc. to form CSX Transportation, Ms. Hamilton accepted the position of the assistant vice president of freight damage prevention and claims from 1986 to 1987. Further serving as a vice president, general counsel and a general manager with CSX from 1987 to 2000, she excelled as the chief diversity officer of CSX from 2002 until her retirement from the company in 2012. She has since worked as a part-time legal counsel with Springboard Consulting as well as on the advisory council for the Cumberland School of Law and as an emeritus advisory council member for the College of Business at Auburn University. Throughout her career, Ms. Hamilton's civic engagements include contributions to the United Way of Northeast Florida, Seamark Ranch, Pine Castle Inc., and the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council. She was the first female chair of the Gator Bowl (2003), and president of Uptown Civitan Club.

To remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. Hamilton maintained her involvement with many different professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Jacksonville Bar Association, Rotary International, the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, and the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, for which she served as the co-chair for the diversity task force. A testament to her impressive career, she has been recognized among the Women of Power by the National Council of Jewish Women in 2006 and the Woman of Influence by the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2005. Ms. Hamilton has notably been presented with the Inaugural Wolf Award from the Women's Leadership Forum in 2015, among other accolades.

Additionally, Ms. Hamilton has been named among Girl Scouts Women of Distinction in 2003, Corporate Leader of the Year in 2007 by Women in Business, and received a Hands on Jacksonville Community Award in 2014 and a Mosaic Award from the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2006.
