Herbert Heger has been involved with the Las Cruces chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America as member and president.

An accomplished listee, Dr. Heger celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Heger initially earned an Associate of Science from the Ohio Mechanics Institute in 1956, following this accomplishment with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Miami University in 1962 and 1965, respectively. He went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy from the Ohio State University in 1969. Well-versed in engineering, Dr. Heger celebrates a career that spans work in math, research, statistics, survey research, consulting and service training, among other professional areas. He is a past the director of League of Values Driven Schools, a large network of high schools sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa International.

After graduating early from high school, Dr. Heger completed engineering work for a county park district, ultimately making the decision to go back to college and become a teacher. Drawing upon positive mentoring experiences, he started out as a teacher at Marshall Junior High School, going on to work as a math teacher at Mount Healthy High School, graduate assistant and associate at Miami University and the Ohio State University, assistant professor at the University of Kentucky and associate director at the Louisville Urban Education Center. As his career progressed, Dr. Heger worked as visiting professor at the Pepperdine University School of Professional Studies, director of student teaching and coordinator of curriculum and instruction at the University of Texas at San Antonio and associate professor of education at Whitworth University. From 1978 to 1979, he served as chair of Whitworth University, progressing to dean of the graduate school from 1979 to 1982 and professor of education at the University of Texas at El Paso from 1982 to 1999. Dr. Heger currently holds the title of professor emeritus.

Interested in community outreach, Dr. Heger has been involved with the Las Cruces chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America as member and president. He has also contributed articles to several publications in his profession, as well as chapters to such works as "Adult Formation and Discipleship" and "The PPST Guide: A Practice Book for College Level Standardized Achievement Tests in Reading, Mathematics and Writing." Remaining aware of professional developments, Dr. Heger belonged to the American Educational Research Association and the National Society for the Study of Education. He has also served as president and chapter adviser for Phi Delta Kappa, and he belongs to the Church of Christ.
