Ms. Pannke-Smith is the founder and president of the National Consumer Oriented Agency in Des Plaines, Illinois. Established in 1990, her business specializes in providing long-term care insurance to clients. She formerly served as the vice president of long-term care insurance with Sales & Seminars in Des Plaines between 1986 and 1990. Throughout her career, Ms. Pannke-Smith has also served as a speaker for Executive Enterprise in New York City and has been a consultant on long-term care insurance for such companies as The Travelers, Teachers Inc. and Annuity Associates Inc.

In addition to her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Pannke-Smith has contributed her skills to a number of other professional and civic endeavors. A columnist for multiple different publications over the years, Ms. Pannke-Smith notably authored articles for the Daily Herald, the Pioneer Express, Senior Connection, the Aurora Sun and 50 Plus Marketplace. She was a former sponsor of the Illinois Association Homes for Aging from 1990 to 1991 and has been a longtime sponsor for the Illinois Alliance on Aging in Chicago since 1990. Ms. Pannke-Smith also served on the board of directors for St. Matthew Lutheran Home in Park Ridge, Illinois, between 1993 and 1995.

Active with numerous professional organizations over the years, Ms. Pannke-Smith is currently a member of the ad hoc committee of the National Council on Aging, served as publicity chairman of the Foothills Kiwanis Club of Boulder, was a member of the board of directors and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Park Ridge and member and president of American Mensa's Colorado chapter. During her tenure with American Mensa, she served as regional vice chairperson on the Mensa Board of Directors and national leadership development chairman. Ms. Pannke-Smith is also a longtime member of the International Society for Retirement Planning, the American Society on Aging, the Association of Mature American Citizens, the Institute for Applied Gerontology and the National Association of Long-Term Care Professionals.

Ms. Pannke-Smith decided to pursue a career in long-term care insurance after her grandmother lost everything upon entering a nursing home, including all her savings and investments. At that time, there was no such long-term care insurance. Determined to make a difference, her career is a testament to the love she had for her grandmother. Her efforts have earned her a Speakers Award by the Health Insurance Association of America in 1990, a Golden Harvest Long-Term Care Award from the Military Officers Association of America in 2001 and a National Award from the Unum Group in 2001 and the American International Group Inc. in 2002, among other recognitions. Ms. Pannke-Smith has been showcased in more than 50 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
